Our Vision
Camp amigo exists to provide kids who have physical and
emotional scars a place to be themselves and build a network of
support that will last throughout their lives. The camp is fully
funded by private donations and the campers stay free of charge.
Our History
It sounds simple enough, but it was quite the undertaking to
make it happen! For years, several Tallahassee Firefighters
attended camps run by the Southeast Burn Foundation in Florida.
Rusty Roberts was one of those firefighters and one year, he
decided that the North Florida area needed to have a camp too!
With help of several of his friends, the Tallahassee
Firefighters had the first camp at Billy Jo Rish State Park on
Cape San Blas in 2001.
The campers had such a great time that Rusty decided that it
should be an annual event, the group should incorporate, and
become a real non-profit organization. After a couple years of
amazing camp experiences, The Children's Burn Camp of North
Florida, Inc was incorporated and issued 501(c)(3) status by the
IRS. They also attained Charitable Organization status with the
state of Florida.
These days Rusty and company are as busy as ever! Despite minor
issues and a little hurricane, 2005 was a great success. We
changed locations at the last minute and had to cut camp short a
little, but it was still a great time. In 2006 we were back on
the beach at Cape San Blas.
Camp Amigo 2007 is looking like it will be the best year ever
as the camper count is the highest it has ever been! With Sunday
and Saturday both being travel days, there are five full days of
activities and fun for campers. Free transportation Busses run
from the Tallahassee, Gainesville and Jacksonville areas.
